Surrendering a Pet to the Humane Society

We understand that the decision to surrender a pet can be a difficult one. The Marion Area Humane Society accepts both dogs and cats that families can no longer care for. If you need to surrender any other kind of animal please call the shelter at 740-389-6548 for help. Please call ahead to check for space before bringing an animal to our shelter.

Surrender Fees:

A surrender fee helps the humane society provide care for the animals it takes in. All animals adopted out of the shelter are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, wormed, and either heartworm or feline leukemia tested. We cannot guarantee that all surrendered animals will be adopted. However, we currently have a 93% placement rate. All efforts are made to either place animals into new homes or into rescues.

Surrender fee for Dogs: $40

Surrender fee for Cats: $25

Surrender fee for Litters of 2 or more: $50

Veterinary records are also very helpful. Any previous information helps in placement.
